A celebrated bilingual author, filmmaker, actor, former IPS officer and present MLA from Chanchal, Malda, West Bengal, Prasun Banerjee dons many hats. He straddles a world of experience as a lawmaker to his undying commitment to be ‘with the people’ and ‘for the people.’ He is also the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Information Technology & Technical Education, a Member of the Standing Committee on Higher Education, and a Member of the Standing Committee on Public Undertakings. Touching upon human lives through his NGO, Prasun Banerjee juggles between his legal lectures, working for his constituency and penning down thrillers for young adults. Banerjee is often seen behind the camera, making films on social and climate issues as learning lessons for the masses. When at leisure, which is rare for him, he plays cricket and is passionate about collecting ‘Cricket Bats’ from across the globe.

Prasun Banerjee stepped into The Assembly in May 2026. He is a very impactful legislator with his constant thought-provoking arguments on the floor of the assembly. He picks up important issues from state budget to stormy bills like Prevention of Anti- Social activities etc. He has become the face of Opposition and the voice of millions who choose to disagree democratically. With his impactful speeches he has been able to impress upon the government to be accomodative, justifying the ethos, that 'The floor belongs to Opposition' His committment to democratic and fundamental rights is reflected from the selection of his legal research topic:
